Bonnie Fay Mayer, known to all as Bonnie, was a woman who embodied generosity, love, resilience, and dedication. Born on December 3, 1932, in Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canada, Bonnie lived a life devoted to others and grounded in kindness, faith, and love. She was a beacon of joy, illuminating the lives of those around her with her radiant spirit. Bonnie passed peacefully on January 25, 2026, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love and devotion.
A dedicated preschool teacher, Bonnie was known for her unwavering patience and her ability to make learning a joyful experience for every child in her care. She was deeply involved in her church community, serving as a deaconess, leading children’s programs, playing the piano, and singing in the choir. Notably, in the 1950s, Bonnie also sang in a ladies’ trio on the radio—a talent she carried with humility and grace.
Bonnie was not only a woman of faith, but a woman of action. She and her husband traveled to Africa and spent many years of their retirement serving with Sudan International Mission. While her husband worked in engineering and construction, Bonnie devoted herself to ministering to women and children, offering compassion, support, and steadfast care.
She was a gifted baker—her chocolate chip cookies were legendary—and a true lover of the outdoors. Bonnie’s infectious joy made everyone feel welcome and deeply loved. Her life’s journey took her to many places she called home, including Victoria BC, New York, Alaska, Idaho and Washington—each leaving its own imprint on her generous heart.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Jennie Young, and her beloved husband, Herbert Mayer. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry forward her legacy of love, resilience, and faith. She was a devoted mother to Beverly Schneider, Richard Mayer, and Jennifer Leiferman, and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Though she had tiny feet, she leaves behind very big shoes to fill.
Bonnie’s life was a tapestry of love, woven with threads of service, resilience, and dedication. As we remember and celebrate her remarkable life, we invite you to share memories and upload photos to Bonnie’s memorial page. Your remembrances honor the profound impact she had on so many. Let us celebrate her life—for she lived generously, loved deeply, and leaves a legacy that continues to inspire.
