Catherine "Kay" Dodson

–

Enumclaw, Washington

Catherine "Kay" Mary Tyrrell Dodson, born May 17, 1935, in Yakima, Washington, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, surrounded by her husband and 5 daughters, completing a journey of nearly 90 fruitful and vibrant years. Kay was the definition of selflessness and the embodiment of love, compassion, thoughtfulness, and generosity. Her radiant smile, which easily lit up any room, was a testament to her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness. Her life was a striking tapestry of dedication to her faith and love for her family and friends.

She was devoted to her husband, daughters and grandchildren, and was most happy and content when her entire family was gathered together. She adored her grandchildren, and her face always lit up when they were near. She took much pleasure in supporting and attending their many activities. Kay enjoyed reading and working on daily crossword puzzles. She had a fondness for gardening, travel, going to the movies and taking care of her beloved pets. Her deep faith guided her daily life, and she was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over fifty years. Kay grew up in Selah, Washington. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy H.S. in Yakima and then Seattle University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. This is where she met the love of her life, Ron. They married then moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where all five of their daughters were born. After various moves to support Ron’s work as a pilot, Kay and Ron eventually settled in Enumclaw WA, living there for over five decades.

Kay is survived by her loving husband, Ronald "Ron" Dodson, and their beloved daughters, Catherine “Cathi” Dodson, Susan “Sue” Zender (Mark), Margaret “Margi” Dodson, Theresa “Teri” Judkins (Mike), and Jennifer "Jenni" Stowell (Brendan). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Daniel Zender, Catherine "Kate" Zender, Matthew Zender (Kristy), Nathan Judkins, Brian Judkins (Elyse), Rachel Stowell Lopez (Nico) and Abigail Stowell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard “Ben” Tyrrell, Sr., and Mary Koreski Tyrrell, and her only sibling, Fr. Bernard “Bernie” Tyrrell, Jr., S.J., who passed on February 5, 2025, three months prior to her passing on May 5, 2025.

Kay’s life was a beautiful testament to the bible verse, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God" (Matthew 5:8). She lived her life with a heart full of love, compassion and generosity. Her memory and legacy will continue to be a beacon of light for all who had the privilege to know and love her.

We invite you to share your memories of Kay, upload photos, and celebrate her life on her memorial page. Your shared experiences will continue to keep her spirit alive in our hearts.
