Choon Meyer Obituary (1931

Choon Ja was born in Seoul, Korea to Dong Hee and Soo Dong Kim. She was the second born child in a family of ten children. While growing up, Choon Ja lived with her loving parents until adolescence. She then moved to live with her grandparents, whom she adored. Her grandparents ensured she attended only the most elite schools in Seoul. Later, Choon Ja attended medical school in college to become a pharmacist when the Korean War began. During the war, both her and her older sister Song Ja, got jobs at the 8th Army as typists. There, she met her husband, Julian Meyer in November of 1956. Julian courted Choon for six months by taking her on dates and writing her love notes on her typewriter at work. He proposed to her in April, and they were married shortly after on September 5th, 1957. Choon Ja and Julian left Korea in April of 1958 and travelled to Fort Riley, Kansas. There, she gave birth to her first daughter, Evelyn. After, they moved to Wisconsin, where she gave birth to their second daughter, Merry. Finally, they moved and settled in Edmonds, WA, in 1963. A few years later, their third daughter, Norene was born. In March of 1970, Choon Ja became an American citizen. This is an accomplishment that she was tremendously proud of. Choon Ja was a very courageous woman. It takes great bravery to marry an American, move to a foreign country with no family, and start a family of her own. She leaves behind an incredible legacy. Family meant everything to her, which is why, over the years, she and Julian sponsored her brothers and sisters to the United States. Besides being an incredibly strong woman, Choon Ja was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. She was funny, kind, thoughtful, generous, and loved everyone unconditionally. She was a great cook, and made sure that no one ever left her feeling hungry. She also took great pride in her clean household and loved being organized and neat. Choon was preceded in death by her husband Julian Meyer, her parents, and a brother and sister. She is survived by her three daughters, Evelyn Bushman (Randy Bushman), Merry Johnson (Gary Johnson), and Norene Cox (Travis Cox); and her grandchildren, Jason Bushman, Ryan Johnson, Shelby Bushman, Courtney Johnson, Austin Cox, and Carson Cox and numerous brothers, sisters, Nieces and Nephews Her love, laughter, and kindness will be deeply missed. We take comfort in knowing her joyful spirit is in heaven.
