Claudette Marie Mason Obituary (1953 - 2023)

Claudette Marie Mason was born on December 23rd, 1953 at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to her father Harland David Mason and her mother Mary Charlotte Hall. She passed away on May 28th, 2023 at her home after battling various cancer related issues for over sixteen years and was known to her friends and family as the "Warrior Queen." She died peacefully in her sleep and without pain and surrounded by her family and friends in her last days and weeks. Claudette was a mother to two twin daughters, Nicolette Hooper, (Snoqualmie, WA.), Shawna Shelton, (Gig Harbor, WA.), and had three grandchildren Adrianna Shelton, Savannah Shelton and Natalie Hooper who are all living in Washington State. She was married to Robert Novicky and was like a mother to his three boys Dylan Novicky, (Los Angeles, CA.), Connor Novicky, (Ballard, WA.) and Kerrigan Novicky, (Tacoma, WA.). Claudette will always be remembered for her loving care, guidance, leadership, patience and wisdom in putting her family first and foremost in her thoughts, deeds and practice. Claudette loved providing for her family and was always quick to accept the opportunity to have her grandchildren in her house or to take them on vacation to see relatives or to get away with her daughters and all the kids. She also leaves behind a brother Paul Wayne Mason and Julie Mason from Spokane, Washington. Claudette was previously married to Dennis Wheeler from Gig Harbor, Washington. Claudette worked as a Social worker for the state of Washington in both Children's and Aging and Adult Services where she constantly made critical decisions in the lives of children and adults. She leaves behind many friends and coworkers who have nothing but praise and respect for her astuteness and intelligence while working her stressful and demanding career. Known for her honesty in every aspect of her life, she was trusted and confided by all that knew her and were confident in Claudette's integrity and reliability. To know Claudette was to be assured that she would give you an honest and candid answer, regardless of the outcome for yourself. Claudette's passion in life beyond her family was her flower gardening and dancing, both of which she practiced as much as she could. Her gardening skills were inherently obvious to anyone that would visit her home and on any given day, rain or shine, she could be found outdoors with her old straw hat, gloves and rubber boots. She equally could be found at the Elks and Eagles ballroom where she transformed into an elegant woman of poise, style and beauty as she waltzed across the floor with a bevy of friends. Claudette was known for her stylishness and sophistication in dressing up and she attributed her skills to the days of her twenties when she worked as a "pattern maker" for a company in Tacoma. She always seemed to know exactly what scarf, color or shoes were a perfect match to enhance and entertain the eye. She was a beauty queen beyond compare and she was as graceful in death as she was in life, leaving us with thousands of memories to cherish and learn by. A ceremony celebrating her life and spirit will be held at Haven of Rest funeral home at 8503 WA-16 Gig Harbor, Washington on Friday June 30th, 2023 at 1:00pm. Any and all friends, family and former coworkers are welcome to attend.
