Dorothea Elwell Obituary (1942 - 2012)

Dorothea Anderson Elwell, 70, of Gig Harbor, Washington passed away on September 28th, 2012 at Tacoma General Hospital. Dorothea, the daughter of Richard and Doris Anderson, was born on May 8th, 1942 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She spent her childhood in Stratford, Connecticut. On August 17th, 1963, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Michael E.A. Elwell of Old Greenwich, Connecticut. Michael's career took them to many places throughout the country including Darien, Connecticut; Rochester, New York; Indianapolis, Indiana; Naperville, Illinois; Fairport, New York; Huntington, New York; Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota; Yarrow Point, Washington; and lastly, Gig Harbor, Washington. Family and friends were Dorothea's passion and delight. She enjoyed making life long friends everywhere she lived. She went on many sailing vacations with her family and loved to host gatherings in her home. Dorothea was an active part of the communities she lived in. She was treasurer of the town of Yarrow Point, the secretary of the Gig Harbor Yacht Club for four years, and heavily involved in Gig Harbor New Neighbors. She was a supportive wife, mother and friend and truly loved spending time with her grandchildren. She brought life and goodness to everyone she knew. Dorothea is survived by her husband, Michael Elwell; her daughter Cynthia (Charlie) Fieldson and their three children; her son Bryan Elwell; her son Mark (Julie) Elwell and their two sons, Matthew and Tyler; her son David (Amy) Elwell and their three daughters, Olivia, Allison, and Macy; her brother Richard (Geri) Anderson and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 10th at 2:00 pm at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor followed by a reception. Please sign her online guestbook at www.havenrest.com.
