Edward James Van Wieringen passed away on October 8, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1947, in Auburn, Washington, to James and Stephanie Van Wieringen.
Ed grew up in Enumclaw on his family’s dairy farm, where he was active in 4-H and FFA. He enjoyed showing cows at local fairs and earned numerous Grand Champion ribbons throughout his years competing. One of his proudest accomplishments was selling his cow, Kings Arctic Rose, affectionately known as Jeff, at the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle for $4,500—an extraordinary amount of money at the time. Ed loved sharing stories about working on the farm with his parents and his experiences competing with his animals. He was a dedicated and fiercely competitive young farmer who took great pride in his accomplishments.
Ed went on to become a master carpenter, building homes and spending a significant part of his life in Hawaii. His travels later took him to Illinois and Vancouver, Canada, before he returned to the Pacific Northwest and worked as a real estate agent in Kent.
Ed enjoyed working out and was an enthusiastic fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks. He loved talking with people and often shared stories of his years on the farm, his animals, and his many competitions. His faith was also an important part of his life. Having found God many years ago, Ed was passionate about sharing Scripture with others.
Ed is survived by his siblings, John Van Wieringen and Debbie Mallery, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Stephanie, and his sister, Connie Haubry.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Ed is at peace and no longer suffering from the debilitating seizures that affected him for much of his life.
A funeral service for Ed will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Weeks’ Enumclaw. A private burial will follow at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park.
