Forrest Sorrell

–

Buckley, Washington

My sweet boy,
Forrest Jon Calvin Sorrell, being your mommy has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. The amount of light and happiness you gave us in the short 17 months you were with us will always be in our hearts. There will never be a day that I will not think of you. I can feel your smile when the sun hits my face. I can hear your laughter when I see tractors and excavators go by. I remember your giggles and excitement when I see your sisters play. And most of all son, I will carry your light with me. I’ve never met anyone who has shone brighter. Your light had such a grand effect on everyone who came across. They all felt and saw that special light.
I wish I could hold you one more time, to feel your head rest on my shoulder. I wish I could have one more slobbery, open mouth kiss, one more cuddle, and most of all to hear you say mama one last time. I would give anything to have one last ordinary day with you, even just a moment with you. You will always be our baby boy, nothing will ever change that. I will carry my love for you the rest of my life and will keep your memory alive for as long as I’m breathing. I am, sweet boy, because you were.
There are things, moments, about my son that I will never be able to explain with ordinary words. But if I could make you understand one thing, just remember one thing about him, it would be the light he brought into our lives. I want to share these words I wrote for him.

My little sun, you honored me
A golden light, a gift, my dream
You lit a place deep in my soul
And made my heart, our family whole

I thought I’d watch you rise and grow
Through time and seasons only mothers know
I’d watch you chase the morning skies
And see the world through your eyes

But now my son, I search the sky above
I’m still reaching for the boy I love
And though I can’t see your sweet face
I feel that bright light of yours in every place
Your daddy and I will hold onto it tight
And your big sisters will let it shine bright

The sun may set beyond my view
But nothing takes away what grew
You are my sunshine, my heart, my boy
You are my sweetest sorrow and my greatest joy

For you were the light before the goodbye
And you’ll be the light for all my life
And sweet boy, when my time is done
When the darkness overcomes
I will look for your light
And I will finally get to hold you tight

I love you with all my heart, my life, my soul. Until we see you again son.
Love, mommy, daddy and your sissies
