FREDERIC J. SHELTON ~ PLEASE NOTICE CHANGE IN SERVICE DETAILS Fred was born in Seattle on February 10th , 1928. He died of complications of a stroke on September 5, 2015 at Cottesmore Nursing Home in Gig Harbor. His parents were Frederic and Charlotte Newberry Shelton, his sisters were Betty, Jean, and Marjorie. Fred obtained his Amateur Radio License at age 12. He served in the Navy during WWII and worked on Japanese codes due to his Amateur Radio experience. Later he served in the National Defense Executive Reserve and was last called on the 9/11 tragedy. Fred attended Franklin High School and later earned a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. Fred initially worked for Reichhold Chemicals in Tacoma and worked his way up to the Vice President of Research position. He had 13 patents and his name was listed in Who's Who in Science for many years. He did extensive international travel in his work. He finished his career in chemical engineering as a partner and the President of Chatterton Petrochemical, located in Vancouver BC. He was an Emeritus Master Gardener who specialized in orchids, a hobby that he started as a young boy while working at the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle. He was active in the Tacoma Orchid Society. Hiking in the mountains, photography, and travel gave him much pleasure. He and his wife Nancy recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They were active members of several churches during their lives together including Neighborhood Church AOG in Tacoma where Fred was an elder. They now enjoy the Biblical teaching at Chapel Hill Evangelical Presbyterian in Gig Harbor. Both Fred and Nancy had many years of travel experiences together. They have three children: Mark, Gayle, and Jim live who in the Gig Harbor area; five grandchildren: Hannah, Katharyn, Tony, and twins, Samuel and Peter, and four great grandchildren.
