Janet Christine (Given) Burridge Obituary (1930 - 2023)

Janet Christine (Given) Burridge our beloved Mother & Grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on July 25, 2023. She was 93. Janet was born June 25, 1930, in Flint, Michigan. She often shared with us her precious childhood memories of growing up in Cadillac & surrounding areas with her sisters Victoria, Frances and Mary Ellen. She graduated from Michigan State University and pursued her Nurses training at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago Illinois. In March of 1953 she married Charles Kingsley Burridge and they made their first home in Lansing Michigan where Charles attended Michigan State University and obtained his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. They then moved to Hibbing, MN where her first son, William Albert Burridge II was born in 1954. In 1955 they relocated to Golden Valley, MN where her second son, Mark Given Burridge was born. Supporting her husband's career of wanting to start his own mining supply business in the late fifties the family relocated to Negaunee MI where Charles started Burridge, Inc. Her daughters, Janelle Christine and Lisa Kay were born while they lived in Negaunee. In 1964 they built a home in Marquette Michigan and the family resided in this home until the early eighties. Janet devoted her life to raising her four children, she was a wonderful homemaker, baker and mother, and we will especially miss the special birthday pies she made for us. Once her children were older, she returned to her nursing career and worked at Marquette general hospital before moving to Missouri and Texas. In the early 90s Janet & Charles moved to the Seattle area to be closer to their children & grandchildren. She continued working as a nurse until she retired at 68 from Overlake Hospital. In her retirement years she enjoyed crossword puzzles, and continued her love of journaling which lasted throughout her lifetime, her books will be cherished by her family for years to come. Fondly known as "Big Perm" by her grandchildren and their friends, her welcoming hugs, smiles and gifts of sweets are loving memories of our dear mother, she is greatly missed by all who were so fortunate as to have known her. Janet is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Dahlquist of Poulsbo WA, sons William Albert Burridge II "Bo" (Pam) of Black Diamond WA, Mark Given Burridge (Kara) of Tucson, AZ. Daughters Janelle Christine Burridge of Kent WA, Lisa Kay Burridge of Covington WA. And Family friend Cindy Nelson. Grand children: Charles K. Burridge II, Jared Abbott, Christine Abbott, Kiri (Josh) Immordino, Alden (Corysa) Burridge, Chris Nelson, Melissa (Taylor) Brown, Chris (Melanie) McCain. Great Grandchildren, Ruby, Stella, Owen, Audrey, Lauren, Madison, and Remington Janet was preceded in death by her Husband Charles Kingsley Burridge (2/23/2023), her parents Victor & Esther Given, Foster parents Herman & Marian Dahlquist, Sisters Victoria Rock (Lee), Frances Klarquist (Edward) and Great Grandson Ethan Kingsley Burridge. Our entire family would like to invite those who knew Janet and Charles to attend their graveside services. Their cremations will be laid to rest in the Burridge family plot at the Maple Hills cemetery in Cadillac, MI. on June 29 2024 at 1:00pm.
