**Joan Lucille McKinlay**

Longtime Buckley resident Joan Lucille McKinlay passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, with her daughters by her side.

Joan was born on May 1, 1936, to Joseph and Lucile Jacovich. In 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob McKinlay, and together they built a family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor. She will be remembered for her wonderful knowledge of her hometown’s history, her years as a Camp Fire Girl leader, her love of genealogy, and her deep affection for animals—especially cats and dogs.

An avid reader, Joan also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, but perhaps what she treasured most was spending time with her family. She was a member of her beloved Stitch and Bitch Club for 69 years and cherished the friendships she had made there.

Joan is survived by her brother, Donald Jacovich (Andree); her daughters, Cheryl Burnside (Ed) and Donna Holm (Girard); 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her son, Mike; and her parents.

Joan will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched and in the hearts of those who loved her.

Joan’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 1:00 p.m. at the Buckley Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to South Sound Cat Rescue or the American Cancer Society.
