Laurie Alice (Moores) Dunlap Obituary (1956 - 2021)

Laurie Dunlap, age 64, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in her newly purchased home in Tacoma Washington. She was a long-term Seattle resident but had recently retired and moved to Tacoma to be closer to her sister Deborah Buskirk, who lived in Gig Harbor. Born in Seattle on November 29th, 1956, to Nancy (Lucks) Moores, and Dr. Kenneth Moores, Laurie was the youngest of three siblings. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and then attended Western Washington State College in Bellingham, where she lived for about five years. Laurie then moved back to Seattle where she met Jon Dunlap who she married in l994. They were both working as distributors at the time. During their free time they enjoyed traveling and camping and hiking all around the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The marriage lasted about fifteen years. Laurie then went back to school and got a Bachelor of Science degree in substance abuse counseling. She had found her calling. She was very good at her job. Clients said she was nonjudgmental and easy to talk to. She always looked for the good in people. She worked in a small clinic about ten minutes from where she was living in Seattle for about 8 years. When she decided it was time to retire, she wanted to be closer to her sister Deborah's family. She sold her Townhouse in Seattle and bought a rambler in Tacoma. She had worked so hard to make that happen. Laurie was a smart, strong, capable woman. She was a nurturer and had been very attentive to her mother, Nancy, in her later years. She was easygoing with a positive attitude and a joyful generous spirit. She had a bright light about her. She will be dearly missed!! She may not be here with us in body anymore, but she will always be here with us in spirit!! Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth D. Moores and Nancy Moores (Lucks), and her brother, Ken Moores. Laurie is survived by her sister, Deborah L. Buskirk (and her husband Brian), nieces Brianna Buskirk and Malia Drennan (and her husband Peter and sons Jack, Ryan, and Conor), and her nephew Brady Buskirk, (and his wife Katherine and their son Tomas and daughter, Isabella). We had a small intimate celebration of life on July 11th with close family on Bainbridge Island at the longtime family summer home.
