Margery (Margie) Elaine Park Obituary (1929

Margery (Margie) Elaine Park was born on August 18, 1929, to Andrew and Bessie Williams. She grew up in a pastoral setting in rural Enumclaw, Washington, with her older sister Geraldine (Bea) Bernice and older brother Wallace (Wally) Elmer. She graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1947. Margie was kind, gentle, and devoted to her faith. She was a sister and aunt who always had a smile on her face and was admired by all who knew her for her spunk and independence. Margie's first job was with Garret Automotive, where she was a secretary for three years. Then she worked for the White River Lumber Company (Weyerhaeuser). From a young age, Margery had a passion for roller and ice skating. As a young woman, Margie went on to become a champion roller skater, winning many trophies and awards. She met her future husband, Truxton (Skip) Wayne Park, at a skating rink where they skated together and fell in love. They married in 1954 in Enumclaw, and lived on the McChord Airforce base until Skip finished his service. After which they moved to an apartment at the Renton Roller Rink where they both taught lessons. Additionally, Margie's career path led her to the Boeing Company where she worked as an executive secretary. Eventually, the couple moved to an apartment in the Lake Washington area and then bought a house in Seward Park. Margie quit her job to work full time remodeling their house. Skip's job took them to Long Beach, California, where they lived for approximately ten years. While they were there, they enjoyed playing golf and tennis. In 1974, she and Skip moved back to the Seattle area, eventually settling in Kirkland. They were pet parents to two cute Scottie dogs (Skipper 1 and Skipper 2), and a few cats that they spoiled. Margie took a job as an executive secretary for Bank of America in Bellevue, Washington, where she worked for twenty years until her retirement. Margery was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Seattle, where she also served as a church deacon. When Skip passed away in 1997, after forty-three years of marriage, Margie moved to Edmonds, Washington to live with her sister Bea. The two became constant companions. They changed their church membership to Maplewood Presbyterian and Margie volunteered there often. Margie and her sister Bea became "snowbirds" after Margie bought a condo in a retirement community in Sun City West, Arizona. They spent several winters drenched in sunshine while socializing with friends. Eventually, they moved back to Bea's condo in Edmonds full time where Margie continued to live for many years after her dear sister passed away in 2011. Margie enjoyed motor home trips around Washington and regular visits to Decatur Island, as well as a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and a Baltic cruise with family. Margie lived a healthy and independent life until only a few years ago, when she needed more assisted living care. She passed peacefully on December 29, 2023, at her care home in Renton, Washington. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Bessie, her husband Skip, sister Bea, and brother Wally. She is survived by her nephews, niece and their families: Bill (Miriam), Gerry (Cherie), Doug (Phyllis), Gary, Debbie (Keith) and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw on January 19, 2024, where Margie will be laid to rest beside her loving husband. Following the graveside committal, there will be a reception held at the Black Diamond Bakery.
