Orsoline Ricigliano Obituary (1926

Orsoline "Nonnie" Ricigliano passed away peacefully on September 6, 2015, at the age of 89. Born on July 9, 1926, in Trenton, New Jersey, she was the oldest of four children of Vito and Rose (Chiavetta) Mincione. She had a strong faith which guided her throughout her life. Nonnie was married for 29 years and had two children. A wonderful homemaker and loving mother, she was patient, kind, humble, and caring. She laughed easily and found humor in everyday life. Family was important to her and she enjoyed spending time with relatives who often gave memorable parties. In 1979, Nonnie moved across the country to Tacoma to live closer to her daughter. It was a big change in her life but she blossomed there. She loved the Pacific Northwest, especially the changing views of Mount Rainier. "Have you seen the mountain today?" she would ask. In Tacoma she worked as a housekeeper and a child care provider. Children loved being with her. They called her "My Nonnie" and regarded her as their adopted grandmother. Nonnie was an avid reader and made weekly trips to the public library. She also enjoyed listening to music and playing the piano. When it was someone's birthday, she would call them and play the happy birthday song to their delight. She and her son-in-law would often "jam" together at parties and holiday gatherings. Nonnie took long road trips with the family and visited many states. She also traveled to Germany when her daughter was living there. Her favorite vacation was a trip to the ocean. She loved walking the beach searching for seashells and driftwood. The rose garden at Point Defiance Park was also a popular local destination. Nonnie was a 19 year breast cancer survivor. She faced the disease with dignity and grace. Her positive attitude gave strength to those around her. Nonnie is survived by her daughter, Lorraine "Lori" Ricigliano and son-in-law Bob Menanteaux of Tacoma; son Frank Ricigliano of Warner Robins, GA; sisters Nancy Chordas and Amelia Mincione of Trenton, NJ.; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to Group Health and the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care they gave Nonnie during the final days of her life.
