Robert (Bob) Bruce Edgers Obituary (1930 - 2023)

Robert ("Bob") Bruce Edgers Our much-loved Daddy/Dad/Pop/Granddad passed away unexpectedly June 4th, 2023, one week after a family barbecue celebration of his 93rd birthday at his beloved Fox Island home. Everyone who knew him will miss his laugh, hugs and "I love you". We are so grateful to have had his love, his guidance, his energetic comedy and his presence in our lives as long as we did. Born in Seattle on May 28, 1930 to Dr. Kenneth B. and Lois (Heberlein) Edgers, Bob was the middle child of three boys, older brother Bart and younger brother Don. He grew up in Seattle's Montlake and Magnolia neighborhoods, attended high school at Northwestern Military and Naval Academy (NMNA) in Wisconsin, as did his father, brothers, and grandson Jacob. He graduated from the University of Washington after which he served honorably as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C. (1952-1954). Retiring at age 70, Bob's working career was spent primarily in the human resources and management training areas. He spent 20 years with Simpson Timber Company, finishing as Corporate Training Manager. He spent another 20 years with Boeing Aerospace, where he served as Corporate Ethics Manager and as the Manager for Management Development, among other titles. As well he might, Bob was proud of his contributions to his employers. Bob married Terry Proctor in 1952, and they raised four children in Seattle, Eugene, OR and back to Seattle, ensuring all four graduated college. Three WSU Cougars and one UW Husky made Apple Cup games interesting over the years. The family all enjoyed camping vacations at Fox Island and adventures from the Oregon coast to the west side of Vancouver Island, forming lifelong memories and lots of stories. After retiring, Bob and Terry were able to travel - Greece, Italy, France, the British Isles, Australia, New Zealand, and even Antarctica. Bob was a devoted caregiver to Terry as she fought leukemia until her passing in January 2008. They are survived by their children and grandchildren: daughter Enid; sons Rob (wife Nancy, their son Matthew); Peter (wife Deann, their children Jacob, Michaela and Christopher); and Tracy (wife Evelyn and their children Spencer and Axel (Jacquelyn)). In August of 2009, Bob reconnected with Patricia ("Patti") Price Johnson, remembering a 1940s summer romance on Fox Island. Bob and Patti remained loving partners until she passed away in October of 2022. They traveled to Hawaii and Palm Desert, and to visit her family (her grandchildren called him "GrandBob") and friends in the San Diego area. Bob was fortunate to find great love twice in his life - with Terry and then Patti. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Bob is survived by his brother Don (wife Carolyn) and niece Cindy Edgers Hamlin (husband Ned). Additional nieces and nephews and great nieces/nephews and their children also survive him. He was predeceased by wife Terry, partner Patti, his parents, his brother Bart and sister-in-law Nancy, their daughter Debbie. A celebration of Bob's life is planned for September 30th 2023 at the Fox Island Chapel at Echo Bay at 2PM. Bob served as an active member of the Board for a number of years, and remained a Board Member Emeritus at the time of his death.
