JoAnn Sherwood Obituary (1928 - 2024)

On Friday, September 20th, 2024 Ruey JoAnn (Stockton) Sherwood passed into eternity at age 95. She is survived by her five children: Becky, Steve, Mark, Jim and Tim Sherwood, as well as 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sherwood, and siblings, Amy Johnson, Bob and Dave Stockton and her half brothers Ted, Carl, Gordon, Homer, and Ray Stockton. JoAnn was born in Meeker, Colorado the eldest of four siblings (from her father’s second marriage) and moved to Olympia, Washington at a young age. After graduating from high school she attended St. Peter’s School of Nursing and became an RN. She worked at various hospitals and loved helping others in this way. Beyond her love of helping others she loved God. This led her to attend Biola, although she stopped after one year. She continued her studies at Multnomah School of the Bible where she met the love of her life, Richard Sherwood. They married and eventually moved to Renton, Washington where they raised their 5 kids. Although she loved being a nurse she also loved being a mom, and she was “mom” or “grandma” to many others who crossed her path. She attended multiple sporting events, concerts or other activities her kids and grandkids participated in. She found joy and expression through sewing, crocheting and most of all quilting. This, in and of itself, is a miracle since both of her hands nearly had to be amputated after falling on hot coals at two years old. Her love for God led her to be a cherished member of several churches over the years. She led the Pioneer Girls program for years and taught in various capacities.
