Sandra Marie Jarvis

–

Tacoma, WA

Beloved wife, mother, and Nana, Sandra Marie Jarvis passed away December 3, 2022 at the age of 78. Born March 10, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert and Mary Lou Brogen, Sandy spent the vast majority of her life in Washington state. The oldest of three children, she attended Mt. Rainier High School and then the University of Washington. It was during this time at the University of Washington, that Sandy met fellow student Arthur Jarvis. A year after their chance encounter, the two wed on October 19, 1963 at the age of 19, the beginning of 59 years of a beautiful marriage and life together.

Sandy spent many years working in early childhood education. Starting as a preschool teacher and working her way to director of an early childhood center, she was in her element surrounded by children. When she wasn't personally guiding children, she was the staunchest of supporters to her husband, Art, in his progressing roles as an educator. Perhaps this love and support was most greatly evidenced by the constant presence at his school board meetings just to provide a silent ally at all times.

Sandy loved her family dearly. She cherished her role as mother to her children Kim (Mike), Todd (Sue), and Traci. She was always present at any event and even when her children were grown, she never hesitated to drop everything when any of them needed help. She found a way to be not only Mom, but friend. Undoubtedly her greatest joy, though, was the role of Nana to her seven grandchildren: Andrew, Rachel (Skyler), Nicholas, Mason, Melissa, Boone, and Jayce. Sandy spent hours standing on the sidelines of soccer fields in the rain, sitting next to tennis courts, and in bleachers watching swimming and water polo. She even traveled out-of-state to watch her grandchildren play at all levels. Even while beating cancer during this past year, she was continuously asking her doctors when she would be allowed to travel again to watch tournaments. Her ever-present, unconditional support is something no one will ever forget.

Sandy was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, colleague, and friend. She was the rock of her family and touched the lives of so many people. She will be loved forever and will never be forgotten.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 6730 N. 17th St., Tacoma, WA 98406. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park.
