Starr (Goudey) Humphreys Obituary (1953

Starr Goudey Humphreys, 62, died peacefully on September 3, 2015 following her 23-year battle with breast cancer. She was a resident of Tacoma for the past 9 years, and she lived in Bellingham between 1985 and 2006. Starr was a wife, mother, gardener, weaver, and extraordinary cook. She was a member of the Tacoma Weaver's Guild. She was born in Upland, CA, graduated from Palmdale High School in 1971, received an MS-Audiology from Western Washington University in 1988 and worked as a clinical audiologist in Bellingham for several years. Surviving family members include husband of 27 years, Jim Humphreys of Tacoma; daughter, Ember (Enyeart) Thomas of Tacoma; son, Ben Humphreys of Monmouth, OR; sisters Rayna Boehme of Burbank, CA and Candace Goudey of Spokane, WA; brothers Sky Goudey of Olympia, WA, Tyson Goudey of Littleton, CO, and Ray Goudey Jr of Carlsbad, CA; father and step-mother Ray and Jeri Goudey of Gardnerville, NV, and 6 wonderful grandchildren. Starr counselled and mentored many newly diagnosed breast cancer and lymphedema patients to share her experiences and help others to figure out their treatment and journey. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at City Central Church, 2520 6th Ave, Tacoma. A memorial bench is being established at the Point Defiance Rose Garden in Starr's name. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (see below).
