Wylma Loretta (Lubben) Van Dyk Obituary (1932 - 2019)

Wylma Loretta Van Dyk, age 87, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on the evening of October 7, 2019 after complications from a stroke suffered six months earlier. Wylma was born on February 23, 1932, in Leota, Minnesota to Ray and Joanna Lubben. She was raised in Leota and graduated from Edgerton High School. Wylma married John Van Dyk also of Leota on May 28, 1953. Their union was blessed with four children. In 1954 they left their hometown and moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Wylma was a homemaker and John was a truck driver. They pursued house flipping, before house flipping was a trend, to supplement their income in order to pay for private Christian school for their children. In 1965 John and Wylma moved to Southern California to pursue work, with their children in tow. They eventually moved to Enumclaw, Washington in 1977 where Wylma enjoyed the remainder of her life as a church member, home decorator and grandma. Wylma missed her hometown of Leota and would travel back every year with John to attend the 4th of July celebrations and visit with family and friends. In their retirement they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. Wylma is survived by her husband of 66 years, John; her children, Warren Lubben and his wife Mary of Port Orchard, Washington, Barbara DeKam and her husband Wes of Mesa, Arizona, John Van Dyk and his wife Sandy of Salem, Oregon, and Joel Van Dyk and his wife Bibiana of Enumclaw, Washington; along with eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters. A memorial service will be held at Wabash Church in Auburn Washington on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11 AM.
